Yamaha is confident in the reliability of the engines for the 2021 season, as the material it used in the 2020 season was not durable enough and Yamaha racers had quite a few problems. The rule that teams are not allowed to change their engines from the 2020 season to the 2021 season makes Yamaha’s job very difficult.

Racers Maverick Vinales, Valentino Rossi and Fabio Quartararo, who used an engine made for the 2020 season, had the most problems. They had the most problems in the middle of the season, where they also started to lose the primacy in MotoGP, which they gained at the beginning of the season. For corrections throughout the season, Yamaha was also penalized with points deductions. The penalty did not hit the racers either, which raised a lot of dust among the other racers. The supplier of the current parts did not provide enough quality material, so they wanted to replace it and thus violated the policy.

Vinales used up all five of his engines, so he also had to start boxing in one race. All the other racers finished the season with five engines and Lin Jarvis also sees a positive point in preparing the engine for the 2021 season. We always lack horsepower, so we could do something more. But this we will have to wait for the 2021 season when we will be able to develop the engine. I don’t really expect any major changes this season. So we will try to improve some of the shortcomings of the engine in the short term in the 2022 season and look at the development of the engine in the long run when it is allowed, ”says Lin Javris.
