With Salom's death, the fault of the racer

An investigation into the fatal crash of Luis Salom, a Moto2 class racer, has revealed that the most likely cause of the crash is the racer’s fault. Salom, 24, died on June 3 after falling after Friday's free practice on the track in Barcelona. The Spaniard fell in the twelfth turn while colliding with the engine, which bounced off the guardrail.

An investigation was launched into the crash after the crash to determine the cause of the crash, and FIM released the findings and conclusions of MotoGP’s technical director and technology director on Friday.

Salom’s motorcycle and telemetry were examined in detail by Lluis Lleonart Gomez, who came to the conclusion that the fall was caused by a racer’s fault.

The report also denied allegations by Salom’s SAG team, where they claimed the unevenness on the track contributed to the fall. “Mr. Gomez guessed that the racer was probably looking back, but when he continued driving he misjudged his position or drove slightly off the ideal line. This could result in stronger braking as shown by telemetry. Because he was not on the race line, he braked too hard when the engine was overturned, causing the front wheel to lose traction and cause a fall. Mr. Gomez confirmed that he did not see anything unusual during the investigation, and at the same time there is no evidence among the data that the accident was caused by the surface of the track, including unevenness, ”the report concluded.
