Before the MotoGP race in Misano, the starting number 58 was “retired”, which was last worn by Marco Simoncelli, a tragically deceased young racer.

At the same time, a debate has erupted over whether or not the starting numbers should retire along with the racers they wear when they stop racing. Valentino Rossi, for whom the number 20 has become synonymous after 46 years of racing in the World Championships, said that he would not mind if another racer chose "his" starting number 46 in the future, after saying goodbye to himself. from racing.

“I wouldn’t want to see the number 46 disappear from the racetrack,” said Rossi, who never stuck No. 1 on the bike instead of 46 in the seasons when he was performing as the current ptvak.

“I prefer it to stay available so anyone else can use it if they want,” the Yamaha racer added.

It is not yet known who could compete with the number 46 in the future, as no one in the paddock of the Moto3 and Moto2 classes has yet decided on this move. However, the current racer of Rossi's Sky VR3 team, Nico Bulega, competed with her in the CEV Moto46 championship last year.

Simnocelli's number 58 is available if its use is allowed by Marco's family, but it will be one of the few starting numbers not available in MotoGP, namely # 34 Kevin Schwanz, # 48 Shoye Tomizava, # 65 Loris Capirossi, and # 74 Daijira Kata.
