Mercedes reserve racer Pascal Wehrlein will make his Formula 2016 debut in the 1 season as he has signed a contract with Manor.
“Manor Racing is a great place to start my career in the highest class of motorsport. I am honored to be part of the team, ”said the 2014-year-old current DTM Series champion, who has participated in eight F1 tests since XNUMX.
“It’s a small and fully focused team. I can’t wait to meet the staff. Although this will be my first season, I want to greatly assist Stephen Fitzpatrick, the team owner, and the other members in achieving their goals. There will be a challenge of problems, but I am sure we will be able to get to the points as well. It will be fun, ”he added.
Fitzpatrick commented on the post, saying: “Wehrlein is a sharp racer with a promising future. We are pleased to have brought him to us. We are a small team ready for the big challenges of the 2016 season, so we chose a racer who is talented and at the same time hungry for turning all the potential into success on the track. He has already impressed in tests with Force Indio and Mercedes as well as with performances in the DTM. Manor can help him have a successful first season in F1. ”
The German racer will be behind the wheel of the car on both days of pre-season testing in Barcelona, starting on 22 February.
The team still lacks confirmation from another racer, often mentioned by Alexander Rossi. He's pretty American optimistic about reaching an agreement.
