Maverick Vinales stressed the importance of his new team leader Esteban Garcia. This gives him the necessary self-confidence and self-confidence, which should be crucial in achieving the desired progress this season.

Garcia has replaced Ramon Forcado in that role, who has served since the arrival of the Spanish racer to Yamaha, and will join their Petronas SRT satellite team in the new season. However, Garcia has already worked with Vinales during his time in the Moto 3 class, most recently as head of Bradley Smith’s team work at KTM. He has already started working in the new environment on tests in Jerez.

“I hope it could really help,” Vinales said at the launch of the new Yamaha motorcycle. "Esteban believes in me and will be key to being able to stay calm and show his qualities."

“From a technical point of view, it’s hard to find a better one than Ramon. He spent a long time at Yamaha, so it's definitely hard for him to leave, but I was looking for something more, trust, a person I could be more honest with. ”

“Esteban is a completely different character. I will be able to work with him much better. I'm sure it will get better. I have been much more confident since his arrival. ”

Vinales was joined in post-season testing by another new member, Julian Simon. The former world champion in the 125cc class took on the role of Wilc Zeelenberg, who also moved to the Petronas SRT team.

“We have also included Simon in the team, who will also take care of my psychological readiness, in addition to analyzing my rides in detail and looking for opportunities for improvement,” Vinales added.

“I have very good experiences with both of them in the past. I am such a racer who needs very calm people in the team and so am I towards them. That way I will be able to squeeze something more out of myself on the track. I am convinced that with all the changes I can succeed. ”

The Spanish racer has had a lot of ups and downs in his period at Yamaha since moving from Suzuki before the 2017 season. He amassed four wins in two seasons, while never getting more seriously involved in the fight for the world title.

Much has been written about his breakup with Forcado, which helped Jorge Lorenzo to three titles. At one point, the team even banned him from speaking publicly about it to the media. Lin Jarvis, at Yamaha’s presentation of the motorcycle, expressed hope that Garcia and Simon would bring peace and stability to his part of the garage.

"I believe that both will bring peace, stability and a better atmosphere to his part of the team."
