Maverick Vinales is optimistic about the race in Thailand before which he confided to reporters that his goal is to finish third in the overall standings by the end of the season. Optimism can also be taken from last year’s premier test at this racetrack, which he finished third, just 0,270 seconds behind the winner. At the same time, he significantly improved on last year's tenth place in the last race in Aragon with fourth place.

“In Aragon, we found a way to be competitive even in the first laps of the race, which is very important to me. This year I had a lot of problems in the first fifteen rounds. We must now transfer that to this race as well. We came in a very positive state, because we know that I drove a very good race here last year. ”

“Racing on this racetrack is very demanding and strenuous due to the high temperatures. But in principle, this is not too much of a problem for me, and our motorcycle also feels good here. I just hope that I can be a little closer to the best here than I was in previous races. ”

The Spaniard started this season on average and was only in eleventh place in the overall standings after the first six races. He is doing slightly better than the race in Assen, where Yamaha has won the only victory so far this season. With that, he is currently their best ranked racer in the general classification, 10 points ahead of teammate Valentin Rossi and only 9 behind third-ranked Alex Rins. This is also expected to be his goal by the end of the season.

"As I have said many times, our goal in every race is to be the best Yamaha and fight for third place in the overall standings."
