Maverick Vinales, who has been suspended and will not be racing for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, has apologized to Yamaha, which deregistered him from the race because, in their opinion, he handled the motorcycle inappropriately a week ago.
The Spaniard watched Friday's practice as a spectator along the track, but on Saturday he repented and apologized to Yamaha. “I’m very sad,” he said. "I'm in a difficult situation, but fortunately I have people around me who support me."
Vinales said the controversial handling of the motorcycle was due to anger, as he was driving a solid race before the race was interrupted and his engine was switched off when he started again, so he started the race from garages and then drove the whole race in last place. In the last lap he drove into the pits, and at the entrance to the pitlane he opened the gas a few times all the way to the end, thereby seeking to destroy the powertrain at high speeds.
“I was very angry as the first part of the race was perfect and it looked like the start of the second part of the season would be very good. Then everything broke down and something exploded inside me so I couldn’t control myself anymore. I apologize to Yamaha, because I drove inappropriately in the last laps of the race. ”
At Yamaha, they felt that Vinales was not only endangering himself but also other racers, which was not the Spaniard’s intention. “I really want to win and it’s been a very long time since I’ve had a good feeling on the bike. I tried, but in the end anger prevailed, so I drove as I shouldn't, and I never intended to endanger others. ”
Vinales said that he wants to make a 100% effort by the end of the season, while Yamaha has not yet decided if he will race at all this year. "The decision is now in the hands of Yamaha, which I respect and accept, as I am still their racer."
