Current world champion Sebastian Vettel has confirmed that he resigned due to a broken fifth gear. The Red Bull racer took the lead at the Silverstone race, then had to park his race car in lap 42 and say goodbye to victory. “There was a problem with the gearbox. I lost fifth gear and when I shifted into sixth, the fifth failed completely and damaged the transmission. We lost the race by a few laps but there was nothing we could have done otherwise, ”said Vettel. “Resigning always frustrates you, but I don’t want to blame the team. These things are happening, but fortunately the next race will be next weekend and we will be able to try again. ”

Vettel is still the leader in the overall standings with a 21-point advantage over Fernando Alonso.
