After the race for the Chinese Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel expressed his satisfaction with the final second place, which he broke through after the safety car stage, which cost him a few places.

The German drove in second place behind Lewis Hamilton on the slightly wet track of the first part of the race, then made a stop during a virtual safety car and put on tires for a dry track, but due to Antonio Giovinazzi's accident he drove a real safety car on the track. world champion spoiled tactics. He fell to sixth place, but then regained his place when Valtteri Bottas spun between the tenth and eleventh turns before continuing the race.

After the race resumed, Vettel overtook teammate Kimi Raikkonen, who was struggling with drivetrain problems, and then fought past former teammate Daniel Ricciard, with whom he even got into a fight, and Max Verstappn, who was at preparing a defense against a Ferrari racer made a mistake and blocked the front wheels.

“The light rain tires were badly worn as the track was completely dry in a few parts and I knew they wouldn’t last long,” Vettel explained. “We took a bit of a risk with the stop, but during the virtual safety car you lose less time with the stop, but then a real safety car came on the track, just when I felt the tires for the dry track were much faster. I could not take advantage of the early stop, but even lost my place, followed by a tense race in which I stayed a bit in the train of racers, and then I broke through. I tried to chase Lewis, but every time I felt I could drive faster and I drove a good lap, he responded to me with an even better one. We were quite equal, but the race could have unfolded completely differently, but it's good that I regained the lost places, "he added. As for the duel with Ricciard, Vettel says: “The goal was to catch Lewis, but I got stuck behind a train of racers. I became a little angry, impatient, so I tried to get past. I felt I could drive faster and as I drove behind Daniel I saw that he was defending his place by driving inside. So I told myself I would try on the outside. I braked late and hard and luckily my bikes didn’t block. On the way out of the turn, I had a bit of a problem due to dirt on the track, so I found myself next to his side. He squeezed me quite a bit to the edge of the track, but I didn’t let him. It all amused me, but in the next turn I had an inside line and the overtaking was over. ”
