The commissioners of the FIA have imposed a fine of 50.000 euros on Max Verstappn for touching Hamilton's back wing after yesterday's qualifiers. The Dutchman violated Article 2.5.1 of the FIA's sports rules, as unauthorized persons are not allowed to touch other cars after the end of qualifying.

However, the commissioners found out from the footage that the Red Bull racer did not use enough force to damage the wings, as claimed by Mercedes, so it is also not possible that Verstappn's move was to blame for the rear wings not complying with the rules. Touching other race cars has become a constant in recent years and although it has not been a bad habit for now, it is still a violation of parc ferme rules. Similar offenses will be punished with other penalties in the future.

Verstappen will therefore retain second place from the qualifiers, and in the event of a penalty for Lewis Hamilton for the back wing, he starts today’s sprint race from first place.
