Giedo van der Garde has reached an agreement with the Sauber team for a race contract this season. They agreed on a reciprocal end after the outcome was uncertain at the time of the Australian Grand Prix.

On the Thursday before the race, the court ruled that the Dutchman has a valid contract allowing him to perform, but Van der Garde decided on Saturday night to drop his demands and will resume talks after the race weekend.

In an official statement, he said of the final agreement: “We have reached a settlement with Sauber and my racing contract has been concluded with the consent of both parties involved. As a passionate racer, I am definitely sad and disappointed. I’ve worked hard all my career since competing in go-karts at the age of eight, all with the goal of becoming a successful Formula 1 racer. I was hoping to be able to show what I’m capable of with this year’s race car. That dream was taken from me and probably my career as an F1 racer is over. In any case, I am extremely grateful to the fans and many friends in F1 who have supported me over the past few months. ”
