FIA Technical Delegate Technical Delegate Charlie Whiting said that before the 2015 season, the rules will be adjusted so that we will no longer see the thin noses of race cars on racing cars, which has upset spectators.

This year, the FIA, with the desire for greater safety, changed the rules concerning the height of the nose of racing cars, and the result upset not only spectators, but also racers and race car designers. Even before the start of this season, the FIA expressed doubts about the safety of new products, which are otherwise completely within the established rules.

“As rule writers, we can’t discuss the look of the noses themselves,” Whiting said. “We are more concerned about whether we have achieved the desired result by changing the rules. Although new noses may not look attractive, we will have to accept them unless they turn out to be dangerous. We’ve acted with good intentions, but we’re not designers. They want as much air as possible under the car, ”explained Whiting.

The FIA is dissatisfied with the way the teams interpret the rules regarding the tip of the nose and the front safety cell, so they are announcing changes for the 2015 season. At that time, the symmetry of the tip of the nose on both sides should be required, so that, for example, the Lotus solution with a forked nose will no longer be possible. Among other things, the new rules will determine the minimum nose area of the car, which may help us get rid of the thin noses we will see on the tracks this year.

However, in order to ensure the farewell of forked, pointed and even stepped noses, the FIA will also write in the rules that there will be no radical, stepped transitions on the car between the tip of the nose and the wider part in front of the racer's cabin.
