This weekend will be marked by the Ilirska Bistrica mountain speed race, which will be the twentieth in a row, making it a motorsport event in Slovenia in terms of the number of performances only for the Saturnus rally and the Velenje rally.
This year, in addition to the Slovenian and Austrian national championships, the race will also be considered the European championship, the highest competition in this automotive genre.
For the second time in a row, the organization is taking place under the auspices of AŠ 2005, as unfortunately there is no motoring club in Ilirska Bistrica that would take over the organization. "This is an emergency solution," said its director, Dagmar Šuster, about the organization of the race by the Slovenian Motorsport Association. “It would be irreparable damage if we lost the race,” he added.
As part of the race, the director of AŠ2005 also announced an organized meeting of alternative propulsion vehicles, and 142 drivers were officially registered for the race itself, of which as many as 36 vintage cars were registered this year, which are obviously becoming more and more popular.
Real eye-catcher and music for the ears are, in addition to modern racing cars, of course also formulas and prototypes. There are 21 of them registered (not counting the three who compete among the old-timers), including Vladimir Stankovič, who is supposed to compete with Lola B 02/50, and Marjan Smrdelj with Formula 3000, whom we missed in all three races this year. national championship.
