Todt supports permanent start numbers

FIE President Jean Todt, who was elected for a second term last week, supported the proposed idea of allowing drivers to use the same start number.

“I think it would be nice if the drivers kept the same start number, with the exception of the world champion, which shows the number 1. I don’t see the driver’s name or number while watching the race. I know car space is needed for sponsors, but there are solutions. For example, we could put numbers on helmets ”.

However, the proposal will also have to be adopted by the Formula 1 Commission before it can be formally voted on.
