Newcomer to the royal motorcycling class Marc Marquez, after a shocking disqualification from a race in Philip Island, Australia, explained the reason for the mistake, which may have cost him this year’s laurels.

The Spaniard could have sealed this year's season today, but the complication of overheating the tires on the new base reduced the race from 27 laps to 19, and a mandatory stop was introduced, where the racers replaced the engine and thus the tires. . None of the racers was allowed to drive more than ten laps on one set of tires.

Jorge Lorenzo, Marquez and Dani Pedrosa raced closely together when it came time for mandatory stops. Pedrosa did his job in the ninth lap, Lorenzo in the tenth, and Marquez only drove into the pits due to a team error in the eleventh.

“We made a mistake on the team,” the Repsol Honda team said in a statement. “We understood the instructions so that Marc could finish ten laps and only drive to the pits before the end of the eleventh lap, so we gave the racer the wrong instructions. ”

Of course, Marquez was not aware of the mistake during the race, so after changing the engine, he drove to the track ready to fight for the victory and even clashed with Lorenzo. The Honda racer was driving in second place when the race starter showed him a black flag.

“The team and I had a big deal with the plan,” Marquez said. “We were confused as we were convinced we could complete ten laps and stop before the end of the eleventh. I followed the team's instructions myself. When they showed me on the board to drive into the pits, I did too, but we were too late. We thought we should do it, but we will learn from the mistake and keep racing in Japan.

When I saw the black flag next to my start number, I didn’t exactly understand what was going on. I thought I might have been driving too fast through the pits, or that I was crossing the white line at the exit.

The punishment may have been a little harsher, but so they decided. Maybe they could assign some other penalty that was available to them, maybe just driving through the pits, ”Marquez thought after the race.

The Spaniard could theoretically win this year's title in this race, but he did not register points with disqualification, and Lorenzo reduced his advantage to 18 points in the overall standings.

“The championship is still a long way off and before the disqualification I was able to fight for the win, so it still shows us well, but now we just have to continue as before,” added the 20-year-old Marquez.
