The second training session was won by Vettel

 

Sebastian Vettel got his second training session in Barcelona on Friday, which took place in dry weather. The Red Bull racer took the best lap in 1: 22.808, which was 17 thousandths of a second faster than Fernando Alonso with Ferrari, who was the fastest in the first practice. Vettl's teammate Mark Webber was third.

The morning training was marked by rain, so the racers drove to the track right at the beginning of the afternoon to make up for the lost time spent trying out the latest race car development packages.

Vettel set up his fast lap in one of the few laps where the track was a bit less crowded. Alonso wanted to repeat the morning achievement, but lost some time behind Esteban Gutierrez. The Spaniard thus had to settle for second place. Mark Webber was behind him and Kimi Raikkonen was fourth. Felipe Massa was fifth fastest, Lewis Hamilton, who spun at low speed in the twelfth turn, and sixth. The Briton finished training just before his teammate Nico Rosberg, who was the fastest at the start of training. Adrian Sutil was eighth and Jean-Eric Vergne was ninth. The top ten was completed by Paul di Resta, whose training ended with an explosion of his left rear tire. The heavily reworked McLarns ranked twelfth and thirteenth, respectively. Jenson Button was better than Sergio Perez.
