Will Red Bull be ruled out again?

Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner fears his team will suffer the same fate in Malaysia as it did in Australia after the fuel flow sensor on Friday again failed to function properly.

Daniel Ricciardo was disqualified in Australia because his car was said to consume more than the allowed 100kg of fuel per hour during the race. Red Bull have confirmed that a problem has also arisen on Ricciard’s race car in Malaysia.

“During Friday morning's training, the sensor stopped working, so we had to replace it before the afternoon training. I have not yet reviewed the data recorded by him, ”said Horner. “I hope it records such a flow of fuel as the injectors on the engine and that it will stay that way all weekend. If we do not find ourselves in the same awkward situation, we will try to solve it with the FIO. But then we come to the same dilemma as at the Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago. ”

Horner explained that they are willing to tolerate a certain deviation in the measured flow, adding that they will talk to the race director to know how to act if they see deviations. “First of all, we need a sensor that is constant and records the same data as the engine injection nozzles, which are homologated and set and do not have any deviations. This is the most important thing. Then we will have to judge based on the data given by the sensor. If there is a 0,25% deviation, we will already survive this, but if it is 2%, we will have to take action. How we will act therefore depends on how big the possible deviation will be.

Before the race, we will talk to Charlie Whiting and try to find a solution. I hope we will find the right solution. ”
