It seems that the beginning of this season will be even longer. The official announcement of the postponement of the race in Azerbaijan follows on Monday.

The outbreak of Coronavirus has already canceled the first seven races of the year. Thus, it seemed that the introductory test of this year could be hosted by the city of Baku on June 7th. However, as the virus is currently showing no signs of easing across Europe, organizers are also expected to officially announce the postponement tomorrow. Since this is a street race, the preparation of the track and the necessary things should start soon. Uncertainty about the situation in just over two months is expected to have such a significant impact on this decision. Nevertheless, the organizers want to run the race at a later date this year.

Formula 1 CEO Chase Carey recently expressed uncertainty about when this season could begin.

“We cannot give an exact answer to this question at the moment. The goal is to start the season as soon as the conditions are right for it. We are in constant contact with the organizers and the competent health authorities. ”

Currently, the first race on the calendar is Canada, 14.6.2020, but given the situation, it is impossible to guarantee that this will actually happen.
