Massa on the Crashgate affair: Alonso knew everything!

Now a former Ferrari racer, Felipe Massa is convinced that Fernando Alonso knew about the Renault team's plan, which he fired in 2008 at the race in Singapore.

Nelson Piquet, Alonso's teammate, deliberately crashed into a guardrail in the 14th lap of the race on the instructions of Flavius Briatore and Pat Symonds, causing a safety car to hit the track. Alonso, who was the only one to do a stop in the pits just before that, took the lead at the expense of this and in the end he also won.

Massa, who left Ferrari at the end of last season, said Alonso knew of the plan devised by Briatore and Symonds, although Alonso did not admit it to him.

The suspicions that it was a planned accident were confirmed almost a year later, and the FIA expelled Flavia Briatore and PA Symonds from Formula One, while believing Alonso's testimony that he did not know about the plan, thus avoiding sanctions.

Symonds has since returned to Formula One and is now employed by the Williams team to which Massa transferred. “I’m definitely going to talk to him about it,” Massa said, “but I’m sure he wasn’t the main one in all of this. Sometimes people have to serve a greater punishment than they deserve. I know how it goes in situations like this in this sport and I will definitely talk to him about it. ”

Massa was left without points in the race due to complications during the stop between the safety cars. Because of the points he lost in the fight with Lewis Hamilton, however, he was eventually costed the world title. It is therefore not surprising that the Brazilian is of the opinion that the FIA should annul the results of the race.
