At Lotus, they are confident that they will be competitive again in the race for the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, as in the races so far. Kimi Raikkonen was overtaken by rival in the fight for the title Sebastian Vettel on Sunday, and the Finn did not have the right speed all weekend to be able to compete with the best. He finished the race in ninth place, but team boss Eric Boullier is confident the picture will be completely different in Silverstone, as the track will fit their E21 race car much better.

“The track in Canada is very specific and we could not optimally warm up the tires with our car. Nor does cold and wet weather help us, ”Boullier said. “Romain showed solid speed in training, but we were a second and a half slower in the race than Red Bull and Mercedes. You don’t lose a second and a half from one race to the next, so we know that this lag only reflects that something didn’t go according to plan.

We are preparing some innovations for Silverstone, which we hope will bring us closer to the leaders. We should also get the best out of the race car on the usual tses. ”

Boullier disagrees with the claim that the decline in Lotus ’form indicates that they are losing the development battle. “We lost a few places, so we have to work hard to keep up the speed. We know the car is competitive, as is the team. There’s no reason why we couldn’t fight for the podium again. We didn’t get five podiums since the start of the season just by chance, but because the package is competitive. Still, we may not do well on some tracks. We are aware of this and we must work on it so that we do not encounter problems on less demanding tracks, as well as in the coming season. ”
