The Lotus team confirmed that they were joined in the shoes of the development racer by the Spaniard Carmen Jorda. Jorda has been racing in the GP3 series for three years, mostly in the beginning. the 2012-2014 season finished in 28th, 30th and 29th place, so fellow racers are shaking their heads over Lotus ’decision.

The 26-year-old Carmen will work in a team simulator and will also get a chance to drive this year’s E23 race car. The question everyone is asking is what Jorda, in addition to of course a lot of media attention and possible money, can contribute to the team, as for example she did not finish a single race in the top ten last year, while Britain's Dean Stoneman won in the same car.

“I have been dreaming of driving a Formula One car since I was a child,” she said. "Joining the Lotus team is a big step towards my goal."

Jorda's big news was also commented on by her teammate from the 2012 season, Rob Cregan, who wrote on Twitter: "Carmen Jorda wouldn't even know how to develop a photographic film, let alone a Formula One hybrid race car."

Dissatisfaction was also expressed by Mitch Evans, the champion of the GP3 series from the 2012 season, and the winner of last year's GP2 series race. He wrote on Lotus' twitter profile: "It's not April Fool's Day yet!"
