The Alpine F1 racer drove the entire Formula 1 race for the Turkish Grand Prix on the same set of light rain tires. A photo after the race from his onboard camera revealed how close the crash was to the Frenchman, as his front right tire was lined all the way to the inside.
Lewis Hamilton also hoped to be able to reach the finish line without stopping, but he had to make a stop to secure at least fifth place. His tires were badly worn after replacement.
