Horner: The formula needs to be driven to the fullest!

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has called for changes after a boring race for the Canadian Grand Prix that will allow racers to be able, or will have to, drive at full speed again. The race in Montreal was marked by radio conversations in which engineers urged their racers to save fuel and brakes. Nico Rosberg, for example, reduced the gap behind leader Lewis Hamilton, but the Mercedes team stopped his run, saying that the German must watch out for overheated brakes. We saw a similar story in most of the previous races, where teams also save a lot of motorbikes, as teams are not allowed to use more than four motorbikes in a season.

“Everyone who watched the race at home was disappointed,” Horner said. “Every spectator wants to see racers driving at full speed and competing with each other at the very border,” he added.

The race was even more "empty" because this time a safety car did not hit the track, which would eliminate the backlog between the racers and mix tactics. The latter were very monotonous, as the too hard Pirelli tires allowed the racers to drive the race with only one stop, which is otherwise mandatory, as the racers have to use both mixtures available at the race.

“One-stop races are not good for Formula One,” Horner is convinced. “It’s important that racers change tires at least two or three times. These tires are too conservative. Fuel saving is also detrimental to sport. Races should consist of the qualifying rounds themselves, with no fuel-saving orders. ”

The Red Bull boss, however, also has a suggestion on how to achieve more interesting races. “Races should be shortened by five laps, for example, or racers should be given more fuel. They have to drive at full speed, from start to finish, ”he said.
