Mick Schumacher, the son of nine-time world champion Michael Schumacher, will progress from karting to single-seater race cars with an open cab this year. He will compete in German Formula Four with the Van Amersfoort Racing team, for which Max Verstappen competed in Formula Three last year, and he will go down in history as the youngest Formula One racer at the age of 17.

"In recent years, we have traditionally offered the runner-up of the German Junior Karting Championships testing in our simulator," said the head of the Dutch team, Frits van Amersfoort. “Mick spent a whole day in our factory in the Netherlands, then we watched him test in Valencia, and finally we agreed to take part in this year’s Formula 4 season,” he added.

The surname Schumacher is already (again) knocking hard on the door of Formula One, and fifteen-year-old Mick could get his first opportunity to appear in Formula One in 2018, when he turns eighteen and thus fulfills another condition for obtaining the super license required for advancing to the very top of motorsport.
