Lewis Hamilton reached the 65th best starting position in qualifying on Saturday, tying with legendary Brazilian Ayrton Senna. The Briton achieved his first Formula One victory on the same day exactly ten years ago, and for his achievement he received a gift from the Senna family as one of the protective helmets Ayrton used in racing. The Mercedes racer said: “I am shaking, I am speechless. I know he was a favorite racer for many of you, but he was also my favorite racer who inspired me to be able to get to where I am today. It is a great honor for me to be on par with him and to receive this gift, so I thank the Senna family deeply. ”
Hamilton will start the race for the Canadian Grand Prix for the sixth time today at the Montreal racetrack. “Montreal has been kind to me over the years. It went close with Ferrari, they were very fast all season. I drove at full speed. I have a lot of fans here to whom I wanted to show a good, fast circle and I succeeded. It was a very sexy circle that I just can’t believe turned out so well. The team turned out very well, as we learned from the mistakes of the last race and prepared well for this race, so I owe it all to them, ”added Hamilton.
The record for most of the best starting positions is still held by Michael Schumacher, who has 3 more than Senna and Hamilton.
