The International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) announced today that races in Finland, the Netherlands and Germany will not appear on the new racing calendar for this season. These three races are definitely canceled this year.

Due to the Coronavirus epidemic, this year's season will not start until at least August. All the first eleven races according to the original calendar have already been postponed or canceled. It is already clear that this year the racers in the elite motorcycle class will not be hosted by the racetrack in Qatar. Namely, maintenance works are planned there later this year. The other ten races, however, were initially only postponed, although the Finnish test had previously been under great question, as they still had not received approval from the FIM. However, given the restrictive measures also related to travel, it is clear that they will not obtain it in due time.

In addition, the FIM announced this morning that the race at the Sachsenring and Assen was also canceled. For the first time in the seventy-one-year history of the MotoGP class, it will happen that racers will not compete at the race track in Assen.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of these three very important races on our calendar,” Dorne CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said in a press release.

“The racetrack at the Sachsenring is unique with an exceptional history. Kymiring, on the other hand, presents an interesting new track ready to attract the best racers in the world to Finland for the first time since 1982. We must not forget the iconic racetrack in Assen, which has a special honor. It is the only test that has been on the motorcycle calendar continuously since the beginning of this sport in 1949. ”

“On behalf of Dorne, I would also like to thank all the fans for their understanding and patience. We are already looking forward to 2021, when we will see each other again at these racetracks, for the first time at Kyming. ”

Ezpeleta added that he still hopes that between 10 and 12 races will be held this year, which will be held mainly in Europe. Four races have already been officially canceled, and it’s hard to expect racers to be able to compete in Italy and Spain this year. It is therefore expected that more races will be held on a smaller number of racetracks. However, there will certainly be no official new calendar until the situation with the virus calms down.
