Formula One teams resisted the suggestion that racers should make at least two stops in each race.

Italian tiremaker Pirelli wanted to prevent the embarrassment we witnessed at the race in the UK, and the idea was also discussed in Abu Dhabi by Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone and Jean Todt, president of the FIA.

The teams were particularly concerned that this was an artificially created tactic that could serve the same outcome in multiple races.
