Morbidelli stopped a Citroen car

With his victory in the second race at the Hungaroring, Gianni Morbidelli became the first winner of this year not to race a Citroen car. Morbidelli felt pressure from Tiago Monteiro throughout the race, with whom he even collided in the sixth turn of the last lap. The contact slowed them down enough that Hugo Valente came close to them in third place, but we didn’t see any more attempts to overtake them in the last half lap, and the trio drove across the finish line 1.2 seconds apart.

The current world champion of the WTCC series, Yvan Muller, gave Citroen the second consecutive best starting position at the Hungarian Hungaroring. With a time of 1: 48.727, he overtook the leader in the overall standings of this year's championship, Jose Mario Lopez in the second Citroen, by 0.034 seconds. The success of the French car manufacturer was complemented by Sebastien Loeb in third place. “I’m happy to have finally opened an account of the best starting positions this season,” said Muller, who started the previous race in Paul Richard with the best starting position due to the penalties of his two teammates. Citroen race cars are competing with an additional 60 kilograms of weights this weekend, which is expected to slow them down by about 0.8 seconds per lap.

Citroen conducted five days of testing before the 2014 season with the new WTCC c-elysee race car, which took place at the Abu Dhabi racetrack. In the 2014 season, the Citroen team will be represented by three racers. Nine-time world rally champion Sebastian Loeb, four-time WTCC champion Yvan Muller and three-time Argentine champion Jose Maria Lopez. The first and second test days belonged to Lopez, and the third and fourth to Loeb. The fifth and final day was done by Muller, who was hampered by rainy weather. "Even though the track was quite dry in the afternoon, we didn't manage to do what we had planned," Muller said, adding, "We need to focus on driving dynamics and vehicle settings." Loeb, meanwhile, has already flown to Argentina for the next tests at the Termas de Rio Honda, where the eighth race of this year's W season will take place.
