FIA: Mercedes wheels are legal
The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has declared Mercedes rims legal by cooling holes after the Ferrari team asked for an opinion on their compliance with the rules. At Ferrari, they mainly wanted to know why the rims are otherwise very similar to those that Red Bull was not allowed to use at the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix, in this case according to the rules. Red Bull had to adjust its front wheels at the time, as the FIA considered that the holes leading the air from the brakes to the outside of the wheel were a movable aerodynamic device, which is contrary to Article 3.15 of the technical regulations. Mercedes used the new rims for the first time in a race in Belgium, and at the same time the Silver Arrows team significantly improved their form, as the novelty obviously helped them solve problems with control.
