Historical appearance of an electric car in Dakar
For the first time in 37 years of the legendary Dakar Desert Rally, a fully electric car will also compete among cars, trucks, motorcycles and quadricycles. Albert Bosch, who has already participated in the Dakar Rally with both an engine (in 1999) and a car (2001), is returning to the desert dunes this year. But this time behind the wheel of a fully electric buggy. “Dakar and I are old acquaintances, but now I would like to prove that motorsport and caring for the environment are not necessarily mutually exclusive,” said Bosch, for whom the car will be prepared by the Spanish company Acciona. The four battery packs will allow Bosch to drive 250 to 300 kilometers, and the organizers have also adapted the rules to help it. Albert will be allowed to call a few more mechanics at the stations where the motorcyclists will refuel.
