Nigel Stepney, a former Ferrari engineer and one of the main actors in the Spygate affair, died in a car accident today. Stepney, 56, began his Formula One career in 1970, but before joining Ferrari, he worked on the Lotus and Benetton teams. He was fired from the Italian team in 2007 when he was suspected of sabotaging racer Kimi Raikkonen and handing over confidential information to McLarn technical director Mike Coughlan. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is confident Ayrton Senna would end his career with the Maranello team. Today marks twenty years since the tragic death of Ayrton Senna at the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola. On this occasion, Montezemolo spoke about his admiration for the Brazilian, and his desire to transfer to Ferrari. “I’ve always appreciated Ayrton’s racing style,” Montezemolo wrote on the Ferrari website. "Like all great champions, he also had an incredible desire to win. He always strived for perfection, he constantly wanted to improve. He was exceptional in qualifying and an even bigger fighter in races where he was relentless. He wanted to switch to Ferrari and me. I wanted him on this team, and when he came to Italy before the race in Imola, we met at my home on April 27. P
