Ducati test rider Casey Stoner drove the first laps of this year's motorcycle, the Desmosedici GP17, in a private test in Sepang. The team did not show this at the team presentation last week, but Michele Pirro first took it to the track with him yesterday.

The GP17 that Ducati tested in Malaysia is quite different from the motorcycle they tested last November in Valencia. On the colorless engine, it was possible to see heavily modified housings, and the exhaust, shifted to one side, was also interesting. Today, Pirro was joined by Stoner, while Jorge Lorenzo watched the events.

The Italian team did fewer laps today as they were bothered by bad weather, yet the Australian was able to make a comparison between the two versions of the GP17. For example, otherwise prohibited wings were installed on one, but not on the other.

The two-time champion will also test tomorrow, with Lorenzo and Andrea Dovizioso riding the motorcycle on Monday when official pre-season testing begins.

Ducati was also joined by rivals from Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, Aprilia and KTM.
