Will Stevens, a former Marussie reserve racer, will be racing for the first time in a Formula One race on Sunday, as Caterham has confirmed him as the second racer at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he will race alongside Kamui Kobayashi.

The 3,5-year-old Briton spent the current season in Formula Renault 2013. He finished the race in sixth place and twice stood on the top step of the podium for the winners. Before joining Marussi in October, he was part of Caterham’s young racers program. He has also tested with the latter, in XNUMX and this year in Silverstone. The last step to really be able to perform in Abu Dhabi was to get a great license, which Stevens wasn’t worried about. According to him, the more than five hundred kilometers they accumulated in the off-season test this year was probably enough.

“I am absolutely thrilled to have been given this opportunity, and grateful to all of Caterham’s members. I feel ready for my debut and look forward to working in a racing environment after everything we’ve done together in testing and in the simulator. I hope that we will be able to do this in the 2015 season as well, ”Stevens said at the confirmation.

He sees Kobayashi as an experienced and fast racer and this is exactly what he wants, as he wants to learn as much as possible from him. He thinks it doesn’t matter which Formula 1 team you drive on, your biggest competitor is always a teammate.
