Steve Day: There is a possibility that Pol Espargaro will sign for Ducati

In the last month, it was known that Pol Espargaro will sign for the Honda factory team in the 2021 season, thus replacing his younger brother Alex Marquez. However, since the signing has not yet taken place, there are rumors that Pol could also opt for the Ducati team.

Pol Espargaro said that he wants to switch to a motorcycle with which he will compete for the highest places and the title of world champion, which has not been possible for him so far with the KTM team.

Honda and Ducati have dominated in recent seasons, winning a total of 55 races out of a total of 46 races. It is therefore not surprising that he would want Espargaro to join one of these two teams in order to be able to fight for the top spots.

If it did, signing with Ducati would mean that current racer Andrea Dovizioso would no longer be a member of the team and would not renew his contract, as the second seat at Ducati is already occupied because Jack Miller signed a contract with them. Whether this is just pressure on the Italian is not yet known. Andrea Dovizioso has had a desire to move to Honda for some time, but due to the extension of his contract until the 2024 season of Marco Marquez, this seemed unlikely. Now, however, this is not out of the question if Pol Espargaro joins Ducati for Dovi to join the Honda team.

Ducati had already tried to make a deal with Vinales, Quartararo and Rins before the season. However, it was unsuccessful for everyone, as everyone had already signed new contracts.
