The first day of testing the young racers was marked by McLaren, where Kevin Magnussen used a medium-hard version of the tires in the last twenty minutes to set the fastest time of day. Second place went to Paul di Resta, who was the first regular racer to test the new Pirelli tires.

Otherwise, the Scot took over the race car from James Calado and of course immediately set faster times. Third on the timeline was Red Bull's Antonio Felix da Costa, who completely ousted outgoing Mark Webber from the test plan. Perhaps worth mentioning is Chilton, i had a lot of problems with the ECU, which made him drive only the last hour of the test day.
