Sebastian Vettel has announced his retirement from Formula after the end of the 2022 season. The four-time world champion surprised the sporting public by creating a profile on the social network Instagram, where he was not present during all the years of racing in Formula 1.

The German racer made his first appearance in Formula 1 in 2007 at the United States Grand Prix, where he raced for the BMW team, and later in the season he got a chance in the Toro Rosso team, where a year later he became the youngest winner in the history of F1. This was followed by a transfer to the Red Bull Racing team and a successful period where he won the title of world champion among racers four times in a row in the seasons from 2010 to 2013.

He later moved to Ferrari, where he fought for the title in 2017 and 2018, but both times came up empty-handed, before moving to the Aston Martin team in 2021, and has now announced that he is ending his career. "The decision to retire was difficult and I thought about it for a long time," Sebastian said in a press release, adding that he would like to devote more time to his family in the future. "But today is not about saying goodbye, but about thanking everyone, including the loyal fans, without whom Formula 1 could not exist."

Mick Schumacher is one of the candidates who could take over Sebastian Vettel's seat at Aston Martin.

"I would like to thank Sebastian from the bottom of my heart for all his efforts and hard work for the Aston Martin team," said Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll, who revealed that they wanted Vettel, who is also a minority co-owner team, for whom he also raced in the next season. "He did what he thought was best for him and his family, and of course we respect that. He drove some great races for us, and his experience behind the scenes was also extremely important. Seb is one of the greatest of all time and it was a privilege to work with him. He will race with us up to and including the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will be his 300th race and where we will prepare an excellent farewell for him," added Stroll.

Of course, the question now also arises as to who will take Vettel's place next to Lanc Stroll. Given Vettel's close relationship with Mick Schumacher, the young German is certainly among the candidates, if of course he is willing to leave the auspices of Ferrari.
