Valentino Rossi recorded his second victory at the Australian Grand Prix, marked by numerous falls. Marc Marquez took the lead with a judicial advantage and when all eyes were on the duel of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo, the new-old world champion fell in the tenth turn and gave Rossi the lead of the race.

Rossi started his 250th race in the royal class from eighth place, finishing in front of Lorenzo and Bradley Smith, who celebrated their first place in the top three after the fall of Cal Crutchlow, who smiled at second place.

Dani Pedrosa had to resign after a collision with Andrea Iannone.

Lorenzo started the race very well, but Marquez quickly put things in their place and made his way back to first place on the way out of the second turn. The Honda racer started to run away from Lorenzo, and Rossi managed to break away in third place from the bitter struggle of the eight racers. It was in the eight that Andrea Iannone crashed into Pedrosa and knocked them both out of the race.

Rossi soon started putting pressure on Lorenzo and an interesting duel developed for second place. Teammates at Yamaha swapped places a few times, while Marquez created a four-second lead. But in the insidious tenth turn, the Spaniard ran out of grip, and it all ended in a fall and his first resignation this year.

Leading Rossi increased the advantage over Lorenzo in each round, who found himself in trouble because of the tires. These were so extensive that the Spaniard was also overtaken by Cal Crutchlow five laps before the end.

Lorenzo was also breathing down Pol Espargaro's collar, but he fell in the fourth turn and left the place to Smith.

Crutchlow was almost feeling the taste of champagne when he was surprised by the infamous tenth turn in the last lap. The Briton fell and helped Lorenzo to second place, while Smith advanced to third place.

Andrea Dovizioso was fourth, and numerous resignations helped Hector Barberi to fifth place.

Thanks to the victory, Rossi broke through to Lorenzo with an eight-point advantage in the fight for second place in the championship, and Pedrosa is 25 points behind the Italian after resigning.
