Rossi prevented the celebration of Ducati

However, after a few laps long duel with Ducati racer Andrea Dovizios, Valentino Rossi celebrated in the first race of the MotoGP season in Qatar. Ducati confirmed his return to the top of the royal class with third place from Andrea Iannone.

Dovizioso took the lead in the first corner after the start, while Honda racers Marc Marquez and Dani Pderosa lost many places. Marquez had to drive into the excursion zone during the rush through the first turn, causing him to fall completely into last place.

Leading Dovizioso lost to Lorenzo in the middle of the second lap, but he could not escape the Ducati racers. Rossi soon joined the top three, who also did not drive a very good first lap.

Last year we were used to Ducati motorcycles starting to lose speed after the first few laps, but Dovizioso proved that they took a step forward this year when they overtook Lorenzo in the first corner 14 laps before the end.

The duel continued. Lorenzo held the lead through corners, and Dovizioso took advantage of the higher final speed and overtook him on the start-finish plane. Meanwhile, Rossi broke through third-placed Iannone.

Just a handful of laps before the end of the race, Lorenzo lost contact with leading Dovi, and Rossi was breathing down his collar. Dovizioso and Rossi swapped the lead a few times, and in the penultimate lap, Rossi escaped enough that Dovizioso could no longer threaten him from the lee.

With third place, Iannone made sure that the Italians themselves were on the podium this time. Fourth was, as said, Lorenzo, and fifth was Marquez, who ran out of laps and strength to catch the top four.

His team-mate Dani Pedrosa finished in a lone sixth place and Cal Crutchlow was seventh. Bradley Smith, Pol Espargaro and Yonny Hernandez finished in the top ten.
