Valentino Rossi explained that in today's race for the San Marino GP, it was more important for him to just finish the race, and thus collect new points and thus increase the advantage in the championship, than to win in front of the home crowd.

The Yamaha racer finished the race in fifth place after a wrong tactical decision, but due to the fall of this year's title contender, Jorge Lorenzo, he nevertheless increased his advantage in the championship points from 12 to 23 points.

“The championship is much more important than winning this race. The title is the main goal, ”Rossi said. “Unfortunately Jorge fell and I ended up gaining 11 points. This is very good for the championship, but at the same time it is a pity that I did not manage to get to the podium, as I wanted to finish in the top three in front of the home spectators, ”explained the Italian, who finished lower than third for the first time this year.

“The race was crazy and when it came to changing engines, this time we had to change twice, you need luck and you have to think fast to understand the situation. Fifth place is still good and we are already looking forward to the next race in Aragon.

There are five more races until the end of the season and unfortunately Lorenzo has a chance to win in just about every one of them, and the same goes for Marquez, who is very good everywhere. There are still a lot of points on the table that we can fight for, ”Rossi concluded.
