Rosberg: Hamilton was holding me back

Nico Rosberg accused teammate Lewis Hamilton of holding him back during the race for the Chinese Grand Prix. Leading Hamilton was told from the pits to drive a bit faster in the middle of the race, as his pace was so slow that Sebastian Vettel was approaching Rosberg in a Ferrari, thus threatening his second place.

Rosberg did not try to overtake Hamilton, as he probably did not want to risk a collision with a team rival in the style of last year's Belgian GP, but the German is convinced that the slow run of the Briton could ruin the race.

At a post-race press conference, Hamilton was asked by reporters for his opinion and the current champion replied, "I didn't control his race, but my own."

Rosberg, however, responded to his statement: “Lewis, it’s interesting to hear that you focused only on your speed while you ruined my race unnecessarily. By driving slower than you should after the stops, Sebastian approached me, giving him a chance to try to gain a spot against me with an early stop tactic. I was so close to Sebastian unnecessarily, and I lost time as a result. ”

When asked by Hamilton reporters if he wanted to respond to those Rosberg words, he said, “Not even. It’s not my job to take care of the course of Nico’s race. My job is to keep an eye on my race car and get it to the finish line as fast as possible and I did. I did not intentionally slow down other race cars with anything, ”explained the Briton, who is leading by 13 points over Vettl and four more than Rosberg after the third race of the season.
