Rosberg first, Hamilton on fire

Nico Rosberg won the third consecutive best starting position, while his teammate Lewis Hamilton was eliminated again in the first half.

Hamilton set the best time in all three free practice, but his car caught fire in the first part of the qualifications and ended the British fight for the top places prematurely. đ

The loss of Rosberg's (only) competitor for this year's title did not make it easier for the German to reach the best starting point for tomorrow's race, as the last part of the qualifications was marked by rain. This one soaked the track just enough to make it slippery, but not enough for rain tires. Tough conditions surprised McLarn rookie Kevin Magnussen, who flew into the guardrail in the first corner and temporarily suspended qualifying.

When the traffic light turned green, the track dried up well and Rosberg ended up at the top of the time tables, while Sebastian Vettel with Red Bull came closest to him, who was half a second behind his compatriot.

Third was again the excellent Valtteri Bottas with Williams, followed by Daniel Ricciardo in fifth place.

At Ferrari, they tried a risky tactic with Kimi Raikkonen, which failed in the worst possible way. The Finn was eliminated in the first half, and his teammate Fernando Alonso was fifth, followed by Felipe Massa and Jenson Button. Jean-Eric Vergne and Nico Hulkenberg were eighth and ninth, leaving Magnussen in tenth place.
