Australian Daniel Ricciardo says he is not interested in competing in this year's F1 season.
Ricciardo, 33, decided to take a break from full-time racing at the end of last season after spending two grueling seasons at McLaren. There, he managed to win the Italian Grand Prix in 2021, but otherwise he failed to keep pace with teammate Lando Norris.
The Australian decided to retire, but at the same time did not want to close the door to a possible return in 2024, so he returned to the Red Bull Racing team, where he will perform the role of the third driver. This includes working in marketing, but at the same time he will turn the wheel in a simulator, and exceptionally he could do occasional testing with a real racing car.
Ricciardo is being offered many other opportunities to compete in races outside of F1, but he says he wants a mental break. "At the moment, I am not interested in another, more serious job, or even racing. I would also like to rest mentally. Racing is great and I love it, but it's also exhausting. If I were to go into something more serious, I would have to meet certain expectations, so I don't want to. This year I have the opportunity to take a slightly less serious approach and rest. If I ventured into some other waters, I would again feel the pressure and I would not be able to enjoy it in any way. "
