Renault: Teams may run out of engines

A French carmaker and supplier of Formula One engines, Renault has acknowledged that some teams using their engines may run out of powertrains by the end of this season.

“In the first tests, we were very far away. We were in a deep crisis, ”admitted Renault boss Rob White. "It simply came to our notice then. We have drawn up a plan to reduce the backlog and we have made progress ever since. Unfortunately, not enough, for which we may pay a price.

Some teams used more parts in the powertrains than we had planned. This means that some will find it difficult to stay with the allowed five engines for the whole season (per racer), ”White explained.

Although the engine problems are most obvious at Red Bull, it is interesting that they were the ones most affected by the Lotus and Caterham teams.

However, White is convinced that despite the problems, Renault will still be able to further reduce the gap and that the advantage of Mercedes engines in power is not so great.

"Our engine can be the best," he is convinced.

It is rumored that Mercedes is so powerful mainly due to the layout of the turbine and air coolers. "We've also thought about such a design, but we don't think it's the best, nor does it give such a big advantage."
