The first pre-season tests this year began in Jerez, where Renault had plenty of problems. The French generators were not for any use, which is why, for example, Red Bull stopped testing prematurely.
Anyway, at Renault last week in Jerez they did a test with Lotus, where they were allowed to drive a maximum of 100 kilometers. According to reports, the updated unit is much better, which is especially impressive for Red Bull, Caterham and Toro Rosso, who have had practically nothing since the first tests in Jerez.
The mentioned teams got to know their racing cars at least a little bit, but they didn't succeed much. Despite everything, Red Bull, for example, insists that they have a well-prepared car, even though they haven't really been able to test it yet. So many questions await us before the other pre-season tests in Bahrain, where all the lessons will be seen in the updated Renault engine.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that Renault and Lotus took advantage of last week's "film" testing, which is of course limited by kilometers, and the use of material that is already available. Renault was therefore not allowed to use completely new parts, which it will definitely use in Bahrain, where they will focus on the durability of the material and, of course, competitiveness, but the competition is at least one test ahead.
