Daniel Ricciardo, Max Verstappen, Nico Hulkenberg, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas avoided losing starting places under the 107 percent fastest lap rule, although our unofficial sources claimed that was not the case.

After a lengthy session, the commissioners judged that the five riders, although they did not complete a lap within 107 percent of the fastest lap of the race in the first part of qualifying, would still be allowed to take part in the race and keep their starting places.

The official explanation was that due to the emergency situation, the rule prevails that says that the starting line in the top ten consists of racers who participated in the last part of the qualifications.
