The International Court of Appeals did not uphold the appeal of the Red Bull team, which opposed the exclusion of their racer Daniel Ricciard at the Australian Grand Prix. Ricciardo finished the race in second place, but was disqualified by commissioners because the engine of his car, based on controversial measurements of an unreliable fuel flow sensor, consumed more than the allowed 100kg of fuel per hour.
Although Red Bull claimed they did not break the rules, the court ruled that the Australian’s disqualification was entirely in place. The team owned by the energy drink manufacturer accepted the verdict. “Of course, we are disappointed with the outcome of the complaint, which we would not have filed if we did not think we had strong evidence that we were doing the right thing. At all times during the Australian Grand Prix, we were convinced that everything was in line with the rules. We are sorry for Daniel, who was thus left without the 18 points we think he deserved.
