Current world rally champion Sebastien Ogier has experienced the realization of his dreams at the Red Bull Ring as he sat and drove a Formula One car for the first time. The Frenchman, sponsored by Austrian Red Bull, has already amassed 40 wins and four world titles in the WRC World Rally Championship, while also leading in this year’s championship scoring. Ogier first drove a few laps in an older Formula Renault 3.5 race car, then sat in a Red Bull RB7, with which Sebastian Vettel became champion in 2011.

“Of course I dreamed of trying out a race car like this one day and my dream came true,” Ogier said. “It was amazing, of course it was a whole new experience for me, so very different from anything I’ve driven so far. Even though the car is super fast, you immediately feel at home behind the wheel. I toyed with the anti-slip system settings and finally turned it off completely. It was interesting to feel how nervous the car became and how gentle you have to be with the gas, but each lap was a lot of fun. ”

Ogier, however, said there was virtually no chance of ever testing himself in Formula One racing. “I have more chances in the rally than in Formula One. The rally is the best as it is fantastic to drive on different surfaces. I’m grateful to Red Bull for this opportunity, it was amazing, but if I look at it all realistically, I don’t have a chance to move into another category and start a new career there. It was just for fun, ”he added.
