Romain Grosjean set the best lap time with the E21 lotus, 1: 26.929, before the track got wet with rain. Second was Ferrari ace Fernando Alonso and third was Felipe Massa in another Ferrari. Fourth was Force India’s Paul di Resta, and fifth was completed by Kimi Raikkonen in the second lotus.
Sebastian Vettel was fourteenth. Training had to end prematurely due to hydraulic failure.
