Kimi Raikkonen caused a real media fuss in Barcelona today. To the surprise of the media, the Lotus racer tested the GP3 series car in Spain as part of the preparations for this season for next season. The testing was made possible for Finc by the head of the Koiranen GP team, Afa Heikkinen. The organizers of the competition explained that Raikkonen tested the car because they want to offer racers more opportunities to overtake next season.

The Finn drove 58 laps, the fastest with a time of 1: 34.780, which is more than half a second slower than the pole position time of this year's F1 race in Barcelona.

“I was interested in how the car behaves and I found it really fun to drive,” said Raikkonen after testing, who currently ranks second in this year’s Formula One championship standings. “We had some problems with the position of the car at first, but we mostly managed to solve them. The GP3 / 13 is a good race car for young racers, especially because they can learn to watch their tires, which is very important in Formula One. ”

GP3 series technical chief Didier Perrin said Raikkonen’s contribution is very valuable. “We are very happy to have the opportunity to work with Kimi. His experience and feedback is invaluable to us. It helped us understand what needs to be done if we want to offer racers a race car next season that will make it easier to overtake. He confirmed all our assumptions and together we were able to start working on two different development paths for testing at the end of the season. ”
