Finn Kimi Raikkonen was not too eloquent after the race for the Spanish Grand Prix. Immediately after the race, he only told reporters that he would ask his team for answers to the question of who determined the tactic in the race, which cost him better rankings.
The last racer to win the championship with the Ferrari team overtook teammate Fernando Alonso in his home race already in qualifying, and he also drove most of the race before him. The Spaniard changed tactics in the last part of the race and stopped in the pits once again. With a stop over, he had less worn tires than Raikkonen, who successfully resisted for a few laps but then had to give up anyway.
After the race, the lawyer from the 2007 season asked his racing engineer who decided that only the Spaniard would change his tactics, or that the Finn would not add another stop like Alonso.
Reporters asked Raikkonen after the race if he felt the team was treating him like “number two” on the team. “No, but I still want to clear up a few things with the team,” the former McLaren racer replied. “The tires were completely worn out in those few laps. There is nothing to add to this. We finished the race far ahead of the others, but also far from the places we would like to finish, so there is not much difference between two or three stops. ”
As usual, Raikkonen did not want to elaborate on past events. He has already turned his attention to the future and despite the new disappointment, he remains confident that the Ferrari team, which has not celebrated a victory for more than a year, which is a further period without success in the last twenty years, will soon return among the best.
“It’s a big disappointment for Ferrari, but we’ve collected a lot of points compared to previous races. We are not satisfied and we know that we will have to work hard if we want to get closer to the best. To continue the season, we know where our weaknesses are, ”he added.
